The joy of schizophrenia

May 2nd, 2008

A post in Radio Ink today asserts that radio is a ‘Split-Personality Industry.’ It cites small-market radio’s continued revenue increases in the face of big-market radio’s continued losses as the basis for it prognosis.

It doesn’t touch on the other split-personality issue the industry is grappling with: those who are embracing the change brought about by new media, and those who resist it out of fear, ignorance or whatever the case may be.

Aside from those issues, and on a lighter note, any casual reference to split personality disorder brings to mind one of my favorite movies on the subject. Since it’s Friday, you owe it to yourself to take a quick break and watch this clip from What About Bob? At least watch the first 1:10. Happy Friday!!!

Wow - bravo to any post that can wrap in a reference and clip for What About Bob!!

A movie that I recently BOUGHT, and watched about 2 months ago. Crazy.

You’re right - for all of us that are embracing the change, there are so many others that are resisting or in the dark completely. It’s only now that many of my peers are embracing the beauty of RSS, something that I was extremely geeked out about several years ago.

It took me a bit to understand why RSS was so cool, and I put my foot in the water with adding a couple of feeds to Google Reader. And that was all it took. Hooked. Why go to all of my favorite websites, when an RSS feed can instead pull all of them into one central location for my enjoyment each and every time they update?

I was satisfied with the life changing addition of RSS for a while…but now, I want the ability to SHARE things. I’m disappointed with websites that don’t give me the ability to share it on Facebook, etc - the ability to embed that content on any web platform I wish. Etc. etc. etc.

Those that get it, make me smile. Those that don’t, tsk tsk tsk. As for the rest of you, you’ll figure it out eventually…….

    Cheers!
